In order to mitigate gender-based violence during the festivals of San Juan and San Pedro, Huila authorities activated a special campaign for the entire department.

The Government of Huila launched the campaign called ‘Huila Grande dances San Juan without fear or gender-based violence’.

The objective is to generate protection mechanisms for women and the sexually diverse population during the festivities of San Juan and San Pedro, a season in which violence against these social groups increases, associated with excessive alcohol consumption and crowds.

Angela Parra, social manager of Huila, said that the strategy will reach multiple scenarios.

“Get to every shopping center, airport, transport terminal, traffic lights, hotels and cultural and folkloric events that take place in our department of Huila. Where we hope that our message is heard and that we can contribute to the eradication of gender violence from our society.”

The awareness campaign is aligned with resources from the comprehensive security and citizen coexistence plan, which includes measures such as the implementation of the panic button for people with precautionary measures; the purple patrol in all the 37 municipalities of Huila; strengthening the police and investigative body and monitoring special cases of social leaders.
