There is very little left until the start of the Paris Olympic Games, which will kick off next Friday, July 26. In this context, Argentina added two new members to the delegation facing the big date. They are the golfers Emiliano Grillo and Alejandro Tosti, who will also be present after achieving classification through the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

It is worth remembering that 120 golfers will participate. France has two places guaranteed (one for the men’s branch and one for the women’s), and the remaining 118 (59 men’s and 59 women’s) are defined, as mentioned above, by the OWGR ranking. Those who are within the top 15 secure their places with a maximum of four athletes per NOC (National Olympic Committee), while from 16th place onwards a maximum of two athletes will go per NOC.

Since there are, for example, many American golfers in high positions in the ranking, the qualification positions for the Olympic Games. They run logically. And in that way, both Grillo, ranked 56th in the ranking, and Tosti, ranked 100th, managed to gain ranks to ensure their participation in Paris.

With this participation, Grillo will be in his second Olympics. Previously, he was in Rio 2016 and won the Olympic diploma for finishing eighth. For Tosti, on his part, this will be his first appearance at an Olympic event.

The rest of the list of those classified in golf in the men’s branch for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be announced on June 17, but Argentina has already secured its two spots with Grillo and Tosti. While in the female branch they will be made official on the 24th of the same month.

Waiting for the possible classification of men’s volleyball and more tennis playersboth by ranking, and for some sports in which the last places in qualifiers have yet to be defined, such as boxing, the national delegation is represented in 22 disciplines with 116 places as of June 12, 2024.

In the case of tennis, according to the ranking of this Monday, June 10, Argentina already has its places confirmed Sebastián Báez, Francisco Cerúndolo and Mariano Navone, as well as Lourdes Carlévia continental plaza from the Panamericano. Nadia Porosoka, although it is not ranked, it is virtually classified by quotas per country and withdrawals. Guillermo Coria, the captain, must define who the other three men will be. The options are a singlelist (Tomas Etcheverry) and two double players or directly three double players. The Magician has Horacio Zeballos, Andrés Molteni and Máximo González to choose two or three. In the case of Facundo Díaz Acosta, in principle he entered through the Pan American, but he does not go because it would exceed the quota of six places per branch and country.
