The quarterfinal series between Regatas and Instituto moves to Corrientes

The tie for a place in the semifinals of the 2023/24 National Basketball League (LNB) between Regatas and Instituto de Córdoba now moves to the capital of Corrientes.

The third point of the quarterfinals will be played this Friday from 9 p.m. at the José Jorge Contte stadium with the refereeing of Fernando Sampietro, Juan Fernández and Cristian Salguero, while the fourth game will be on the same stage located in Miter park, on Sunday the 16th starting at 8:30 p.m.

The best-of-five-game series is tied at 1 after passing through the capital of Córdoba. This balance requires two games to be played in Corrientes. If one of the protagonists wins both games, they will advance to the semifinal, if the wins are shared, the quarterfinal match will be defined in Córdoba on Wednesday the 19th.

“The playoffs are the one who wins three games and the series for now is one to one, with us winning one away game, which is not an advantage, but we are well positioned,” said Regatas coach, Fernando Calvi.

Each playoff game is a different story and the development of each one is rarely repeated, but it is worth remembering, as immediate antecedents, what happened in Córdoba.

On Sunday the 9th, Regatas surprised Instituto and won 86 to 76. After an even first quarter and high scoring (the visit won 24 to 22), Fantasma imposed conditions, became strong defensively and had an offensive distributed, with 6 players in double digits where Franco Vieta stood out with 18 points and Charles Thomas with 16.

“The idea was to steal the first point and we achieved it. We have to continue taking advantage of these moments. We played an incredible game, especially in defense and the work of everyone in the attack was also very important,” explained Vieta.

In the second match, 48 hours later, Instituto showed its results, was second in the Regular Phase, and dominated in a development almost without equivalence.

The first quarter favored those led by Lucas Victoriano 28 to 14 and then they managed the times and the scoreboard to win a comfortable victory by a 36-point advantage (110 to 74).

Instituto had great effectiveness in field goals: 61%, that is, 37 shots made out of 60 attempted, adding doubles and triples. While its main scorer was center Roberto Acuña with 17 points.

“Parties like this do not stand up to analysis. Obviously they were going to show another side, it was what we expected in terms of intensity, and they were one or two marches above us in that and especially in effectiveness,” Calvi acknowledged.

Now comes the turn to play the third match in Corrientes. Regatas, which finished twelfth in the Regular Phase, knows that it needs to regain defensive solidity and lower the opponent’s scoring to have aspirations of victory. They must also regain effectiveness in attack and reduce the number of losses.

“We are in a good moment and people are hooked on the team. Now we have to look to compete on Friday, play a good game and always focus on continuing to advance,” added the coach.

In Vicente López

In the “Ciudad Vicente López” stadium, this Friday, starting at 9:10 p.m., the third point of the quarterfinal series between Platense and Olympic de La Banda will be played.

The Santiago team won the two games played at home, the second by a wide margin, therefore they will look for the victory that allows them to get into the semifinals of the season.
