Colombia consolidated itself in 2023 as one of the preferred destinations for international aesthetic plastic surgery patients.

The results of the annual survey of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) confirm Colombia as the country with the highest proportion of patients coming from abroad, above countries such as Mexico, Syria and Turkey .

In 2023, one in three patients (30 percent) treated in Colombia were from abroad, a proportion that triples the world average.

Americans, Venezuelans and Ecuadorians are the most common nationalities in the offices of Colombian plastic surgeons.

The ISAPS survey also revealed that in 2023 the estimated number of aesthetic plastic surgery procedures in Colombia was 447,268, something like 1,225 daily; 270,870 were surgical and 176,399 were non-surgical.

The most common surgical procedures were liposuction, buttock augmentation, breast augmentation, breast lift, and abdominoplasty. Regarding non-surgical procedures, the most practiced were the application of botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid, followed by laser hair removal, skin tightening and calcium hydroxyapatite.

However, according to the survey, There was a 42 percent decrease in the performance of aesthetic plastic surgery procedures in Colombia compared to 2022, which is similar to what is reported by other countries, probably due to the uncertainty due to the global economic crisis.

“Despite this, the ISAPS survey revalidates the preference that thousands of national and international patients have towards Colombian plastic surgeons due to their reputation and high quality standards,” stated Dr. Damaris Romero Chamorro, president of the Colombian Society of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery (SCCP).
