The mayor of Córdoba, Daniel Passerini, anticipated that the center of excellence in circular economy of Córdoba will operate in the building that was the former San Martín neighborhood prison, as part of the Prospectas project of the Organization of American States (OAS).

“Perhaps the icing on the cake was this year when the OAS chose Córdoba as a center of excellence for the circular economy. The culminating point of the transformation is that this center will function in a former prison. We are going to transform a prison that was left in the urban ejido, which Governor Juan Schiaretti had already transferred in part and now Governor Martín Llaryora transferred the entire San Martín prison to us, and we have decided to transform it into a center of economic excellence circular,” Passerini announced in his second speech at the World Circular Economy Summit, where he shared a panel with the central theme of smart and integrated cities.

Passerini made the announcement within the framework of his presentation in the round that he shared with the mayor of San Antonio de Areco, Francisco Ratto, the oldest city in Buenos Aires, with 30 thousand inhabitants, agricultural and traditional, which adopted the circular economy to sustain its tourist attraction, with the installation of more than 100 differentiated waste collection points.

In addition, Passerini said that the gas production generated in the Piedra Blanca burial ground will be used to supply the sustainable electric mobility service station in the city. “Already 22 percent of what is collected is not buried in Córdoba. There are four Mario Kempes stadiums, to graph it. And we have to go for more, but with what is buried, we are going to produce gas,” explained the mayor of the capital.
