Once again, the armed conflict generates displacement and confinement in the town ofMadrigals,Municipality ofPolicarpa, in Nariño.

According to information from the communities through social networks and messages on communication platforms; The situation occurred three days ago, leaving the inhabitants of Madrigales in the middle of the confrontation.

At least 700 familiesThey are affected by combats that occur in the rural area of ​​the Nariñense mountain range; The governor of Nariño, Luis Alfonso Escobar, summoned aextraordinary security council with the purpose of urgently addressing this humanitarian emergency.

Faced with this new humanitarian situation, a team from the Government Secretariat and the Undersecretary of Peace and Human Rights is carrying out support and care actions for the more than3,000 people who would be in a situation of confinement and forced displacement.

“In the municipality of Policarpa and, specifically, in the town of Madrigales, harassment has been taking place by illegal groups that are present in the mountain range and this Thursday and Wednesday afternoon they reported fighting in this area that has left a number important ofdisplaced; approximately 700 families, a number of 3,000 people displaced from these villages,” explained theSecretary of the Government of Nariño, Come Estupíñán.

The Madrigales area and in general theNariño mountain rangeIt is a constant scene of the presence of illegal groups, since the area is recognized as an important corridor for the drug trafficking business in all its phases, that is, from coca crops, the presence of leaf transformation laboratories and its subsequent departure to the coast of Nariño through tertiary routes or using the rivers that connect with that region of the department.

“It is a very serious situation that arises and therefore we have convened as a measure a security council, led by the governorLuis Alfonso Escobar,to address and propose some measures that may allow the protection of the communities,” said Secretary Estúpiñan.

Likewise, the Departmental Government reiterated the call to the armed groups to respect the human rights of the civilian population and the invitation to be part of the efforts for peace in Nariño.

“We continue to call, we continue to call on armed actors to respect International Humanitarian Lawof the civilian population,” concluded the secretary of the Nariño government.
