Martha Alfonso for approval of pension reform

In the microphones of W Weekendthe representatives Martha Alfonso and Juan Carlos Losada debated regarding the approval of the pension reform who has received questions for the way he went through the House of Representatives.

For the representative of the Historical Pact, this was a decision that had to be made, since they had been debating for 7 hours and only six articles had been approved. “At that point, it was either make that decision or the situation would sink.” pension reform”.

In the same way, Alfonso recognized that one of the fears that the National Government benches had was for the project to return to the Senate and remain in the hands of the president of the Upper House, Ivan Name.

“It is a resource that was had and extreme. There was a procedure that had to be developed after it was voted on in the Chamber (…). It meant that we had to return to the Senate, with the possibility that Iván Name would shelve the project, it was putting in his hands the possibility of that reform being sunk.”he explained.

Despite this, believes that Colombia made progress in the pension systembut clarified that adjustments must be made to avoid a crisis in the current pension system.

What did Juan Carlos Losada say?

For his part, representative Losada, of the Liberal Party, He pointed out that what Martha Alfonso said was not true and explained that he was not against the reform.

“A reform of this level in any serious Congress would have taken 2 or 3 years to discuss.because we are talking about the pension future of millions of Colombians,” he stated.

“When you decide to take the shortcut path and against democracy, it is because, as they did in the past, they have majorities to make decisions like that”he added.

In the same way, he pointed out that the great fear that the Petro Government had was that the reform would return to the Senate with Ivan Name.
