Irene Visón and Saúl Cuende are the names of the EBAU 2024 in La Rioja. This Friday the grades were released and these two students from IES Duques de Nájera and IES Hermanos D’Elhuyar achieved the best results. Irene Visón has the best grade in La Rioja (9.95 out of 10) taking into account the 40% of the 9.875 that she has obtained in the mandatory exams and the average of 10 for the Baccalaureate. In the mandatory phase of the EBAU, it was Saúl Cuende who obtained the highest grade, a 9.88, which, together with his average of 9.940 in the Baccalaureate, obtained a 9.916 in the EBAU.

Two marks of excellence just a few hundredths away from 10. Or 14, if we take into account the voluntary phase. Irene has a 13.96 and Saúl a 13.91 that will open the doors to anything they want to study. She was clear about it and set her goal on the double degree in Business Administration and Mathematics at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, while the grade he achieved has slightly changed Saúl’s plans: “I want to study engineering and I was thinking of doing mechanics in La Rioja.” , but with this note I still opted for something more curious, like Aerospace Engineering.”

Irene found out this Friday about her achievement through a call from the University that informed her that it was the highest grade in La Rioja, “but at that time she had not even seen the grades.” Although she “knew that I had done well because I had prepared a lot, but I didn’t expect to get the best grade at all.” Also a surprise in the case of Saúl, who saw the notes through his cell phone when he was returning home: “They had told us that they would leave around 1 but I checked in earlier just in case and they are there. A surprise. And then the University called me and told me that it was the highest grade in the compulsory phase. That has already been the icing on the cake, I didn’t expect it at all.”

Although these two students have studied in different educational centers in Logroño and different high school branches, she in Social Sciences and he in Scientific-Technology, not only the surprise at the grades is their point in common. They also agree on the key to success, perseverance and work throughout the course. “The important thing is to take the course well, work little by little, exam by exam, and not binge at the end. You have to hit it but less,” says Saúl Cuende, laughing. “The last few weeks have been about reviewing, remembering again, not learning anything new.” Irene Visón considers the same: “The EBAU exams are what we have been studying all year, no surprises. “I had been very well prepared and the last few weeks are just about giving one last push.”

For her, it has also been important to have a goal. “I wanted to study a career that requires a lot of grades and, since I am ambitious, I looked straight at my goal and was constant. The effort has its reward,” she says with the satisfaction of having achieved it.

Both students have completed all of Secondary School in two public institutes. “The last year has been a bit chaotic, we have suffered, but the experience at this stage is very positive,” says Saúl. For her part, Irene points out that an important part of her grade is her responsibility as well as her teachers: “I have always done well at school and we have received very good preparation.” A stage that they now close with a brilliant record and an EBAU of almost 14 that will open the doors to whatever they want to be in the future.
