The Board of Directors of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Valle del Cauca (CVC) approved in an ordinary session the necessary resources to implement risk mitigation actions due to torrential floods and promote the sustainable occupation of the territory in the Frayle River, Florida. The approval of this project, which amounts to 12,000 million pesos, is a dream come true for Floridians.

The general director of the CVC, Marco Antonio Suárez Gutiérrez, expressed his satisfaction at advancing in the construction of works that will improve the quality of life of the communities. «This approval is a dream Floridians have had for a long time. The continuation of the protection works on the Frayle River, requested by the communities, has been approved with the future validity and the necessary budget. This work will not only generate employment, but will also mitigate the flooding caused by the Frayle River, with an investment of approximately 12 billion pesos,” he stated.

The project includes the construction of a dam from the El Porvenir II urbanization to the Municipal Forest, with an average height of 4.50 m and a section designed to contain flows with peaks of up to 1074.72 m³/s, corresponding to a return period of 100 years. , in addition to a variable free edge according to flow conditions.

In addition, the Director of the CVC announced tours to identify points that require clearing of main water sources in the municipality, especially in view of the next La Niña phenomenon scheduled for August, in order to safeguard the lives and property of the inhabitants.

The mayor of Florida expressed his gratitude to the CVC for its commitment to the municipality. «Today is a day of great news. The Corporation will soon deliver the Wastewater Treatment Plant, benefiting 50,000 people in the urban area. We will also have a retaining wall to prevent torrential floods from the Frayle River and the Frayle and Las Cañas rivers will be cleared to avoid situations related to the increase in their flows,” he said.

Delivery of the WWTP in Florida

Within the framework of World Environment Day, on June 6 the CVC will deliver the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to the municipality of Florida. This project, built on a 28 thousand square meter lot donated by the municipality, had an investment of 20,047 million pesos contributed by the CVC, reaffirming its commitment to the sanitation of the Cauca River, one of the greatest challenges for the environmental entity. .
