Colombian soccer player Edwin Cardona and his family were victims of an armed attack in a rural area of the municipality of San Jerónimo, Antioquia.
The unfortunate event occurred while the family was traveling in an armored vehicle that was intercepted by individuals on a motorcycle. The attackers tried to open the vehicle and, when they failed, they shot at one of the side windows.
The incident has generated concern, not only among those close to Cardona, but also in the community in general, which has expressed its solidarity and support for the family. The authorities have launched an exhaustive investigation to identify and capture those responsible for this act of violence which, according to the commander of the Police in Antioquia, could be related to an attempted robbery.
Family reactions
After the attack, Edwin Cardona’s wife, visibly affected, shared a message via video to thank the expressions of affection and concern received. In her words, she expressed the anguish and pain of having lived through this traumatic experience with her children, but she also expressed her gratitude for being safe:
«Hello everyone, through this video we want to thank you for the expressions of affection and concern for what happened. As a family we were victims of an attack that is still a matter of investigation as to what the purpose was, it is truly a regrettable fact, too sad for us as a family, especially having to experience these types of situations with our children, but thank God we are fine and I really thank everyone for the concern and the nice messages,” he said.
For his part, Edwin Cardona also thanked the support received and highlighted the role of the Police in the prompt response to the incident:

The Police commander in Antioquia explained that they are in the process of determining whether a vehicle and three people who were at the scene have some degree of participation in the attack. The investigation is focused on identifying the aggressors and ensuring that justice is done to prevent similar situations from happening again.
