A cable theft gang that pretended to work for a telephone company fell this Saturday night when the Buenos Aires City Police arrested them while they were taking 100 meters of cable from a sewer in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Mataderos.

The intense operation took place at the intersection between the streets Pilar and Bragado, when a patrolman carrying out routine tasks came across a large group of alleged workers who were loading underground cables aboard a Mercedes Benz truck. The route was about one hundred meters and the alleged workers took the cables out of the underground chamber to put them in the truck.

The police quickly confirmed that it was not a company and the criminals They tried to escape aboard four different vehicles. However, the troops blocked their path and detained a Volkswagen Amaroka Toyota Hilux and a Renault Sandero.

In that first operation they were captured seven men and one woman, but the investigation continued and the chase continued through the City of Buenos Aires. The rest of the gang – five men who posed as workers – fled aboard a Volkswagen Gol. Finally fThey were caught by officers from Neighborhood Police Station 9A, in Directory and Larrazabal.

The case fell to Federal Court Number 1, headed by Dr. María Servini, who continued the investigation and ordered a total of ten raids, where two more criminals were arrested.

In total, the band was made up of fourteen men and one woman. At the time of arrest, everyone showed apocryphal identifications of a telephone service provider company.

A few hours later, it was determined that it was a criminal gang from the southern area of ​​Greater Buenos Aires, dedicated to the systematic theft of wiring, which operated both in the City of Buenos Aires and in the suburbs. The arrested woman, 26 years old, had a history of robbery.

The four vehicles mentioned above and the Mercedes Benz truck used to move the cables were seized, as well as cutting tools, a large quantity of cables, uniforms and work clothes.
