Cuba received 4% more tourists in the accumulated 2024, always compared to the 2023 data, although air capacity fell 1%.

The data has been published by the international consulting firm ForwardKeys.

All in all, the recovery of tourism in Cuba continues to be one of the slowest in the entire Caribbean, along with destinations such as Saint Martin (-62%), Haiti (-52%), Suriname (-4%) and Guadeloupe (- 1%).

In contrast, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands (+69%), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (+40%), Belize (+30%) and Curacao (+24%) lead the regional table.

In the case of Cuba’s classic competitors, such as Puerto Rico, it grew by 18%, with an increase in air capacity of 15%.

The Dominican Republic did so by 12% and 14%, respectively, while the Mexican destination of Cancun signed 7% and 7%.

From ForwardKeys they highlight that ‘Colombian visitors are the main factor in Cuba’s recovery, with arrivals that skyrocketed by +221%, compared to the same period in 2023’.

The analysis company has also highlighted that international arrivals to the Caribbean show a growth of 10% in these first months of 2024, and in general 13% compared to 2019 data.

‘The Caribbean continues to perform solidly. However, the year-on-year growth, although positive, represents a more modest increase compared to the rest of the Americas, which shows a growth of 15% compared to the same period,’ highlights the company.
