The department of Córdoba faces two great challenges to promote its sun and beach tourism vocation: the need to modernize the La Doctrina bridge and combat coastal erosion that affects coastal municipalities. This was stated by Governor Erasmo Zuleta Bechara, who highlighted the importance of overcoming these challenges to take advantage of the region’s great tourism potential.

The La Doctrina bridge, located on the road that connects the municipalities of Lorica and San Bernardo del Viento, is considered a shame by the departmental leader due to its narrowness and obsolescence. With barely one lane enabled, this bridge has become a bottleneck for tourist development in the area, limiting the flow of visitors and economic growth.

On the other hand, coastal erosion represents a constant threat to the municipalities located on the Córdoba coast. The advance of the sea has been deteriorating gradually the beaches and tourist infrastructure, putting at risk not only the natural attractiveness of the region, but also the safety of the inhabitants and visitors.

Given this situation, the Government of Córdoba has announced the prioritization of strategic projects to face these challenges. In the case of the La Doctrina bridge, the construction of a new modern and functional structure that allows fluid and safe transit is contemplated. This is part of the project to improve the Chinú-Lorica-San Bernardo del Viento highway, for which the bidding for studies and designs has already been opened.

Regarding coastal erosion, the implementation of mitigation and coastal protection measures is proposed, such as the construction of spurs and the restoration of natural ecosystems. In addition, it seeks to strengthen urban and tourism planning in coastal municipalities, promoting sustainable and resilient development against the effects of climate change.

Governor Zuleta Bechara highlighted the importance of these projects for the future of Córdoba, pointing out that “when are we going to have sun and beach tourism if the connecting road is not there, if coastal erosion is taking all the coastal municipalities ahead . We need to start developing those large projects that will allow you, in the medium term, to exploit the great potential that the department has.”
