A serious accident shocked the city of Armenia on Good Friday this year, leaving one person dead and several injured. The incident occurred on the morning of March 29, in the sector of Carrera 19 between Calles 9 Norte and 10 north, in front of the Inem school.
A van, driven byr Melisa Cortés Guzmán, in a state of intoxication, lost control and invaded the opposite lane, hitting a motorcyclist. The tragedy was recorded in several videos circulating on social networks, showing the magnitude of the impact.
The victim, identified as Arles Arbeláez, 50, was heading to work on his motorcycle when he was hit by the truck that invaded his lane at high speed. Arbeláez took care of the cars in a well-known supermarket in the city, where he was known by many people. Although he did not have a fixed salary, with tips he managed to raise good money to support his family.
His wife asks for justice
Melisa Cortés Guzmán, the driver who caused the accident, accepted the charges against her during the arraignment hearing. She was charged with the crime of aggravated manslaughter and was charged with a sentence of four years in prison. in the midst of tears, the 29-year-old woman apologized for her actions that claimed Arbeláez’s life and left three people injured. “I apologize for the damage caused,” he said during the hearing.
However, Arbeláez’s wife, Marta Patricia Lara, broke the silence and told what her life has been like since the tragedy. ““I tell him that I love him and he tells me that he loves me too and that we were meeting at noon for lunch,” told in dialogue with Séptimo Día.
She narrated that Around 3:00 in the afternoon that day they called her to tell her about the accident that occurred in the city., but she never imagined that her husband was the victim. “What’s wrong with the law?” Marta expressed after learning of the sentence given to the driver. “It’s very sad to lose a person you love for someone unconscious, that’s irresponsible,” she added.
“She killed my husband,” Marta said. She asks for justice, since the woman had already had two incidents prior to the tragedy. The person responsible for the accident did not want to give an interview.
