The zonal deputy manager of Aguas del Valle, Alejandro Salazar, reported that, due to the high turbidity in the Elqui RiverAs a result of the activation of the streams due to the rains, the water utility decreased its productive capacity. “Our backup systems allowed us to sustain the demand for drinking water for several hours, but turbidity has persisted, which has forced us to these force majeure outages, given the imbalance of the system. “We are on the ground carrying out various operational maneuvers that allow us to stabilize the system,” Salazar reported.
“We continue on the ground monitoring the evolution of the river and we remain in coordination with the authorities. We will have tanker trucks that will travel through the affected sectors. “We are installing stationary ponds and hydropack support for health facilities so that they can function normally,” he added.
Finally, he asked customers in sectors not affected by these cuts to make rational and supportive use of the resource, avoiding actions such as washing cars and clothes, or watering gardens, in order to contribute to the stabilization of the system.
