To commemorate World Blood Donor Day, a fixed blood donation point was opened, and it was invited to praise the generosity of the people of Boyacá who usually donate, because every time one of them carries out this process, three lives can be saved. .

It must be remembered that the Hemocentro del Centro Oriente Colombiano is the only blood bank that the department has and is in charge of supplying both public and private institutions.

Germán Francisco Pertuz González, Manager of the San Rafael de Tunja University Hospital, highlighted that the department’s blood bank was inaugurated 20 years ago by the hospitals of Duitama, Sogamoso and Tunja, “today it is a strengthened blood bank, focused on donors and in the safety of the blood that is donated, from the implementation of new technologies.”

Oscar Jiménez, Secretary of Health of Boyacá, explained that the new donation point seeks to encourage this altruistic act, “the objective is to have regular donors, so that the donation becomes an act like going to a medical check-up, in a routine and being In a place as strategic as the center of Tunja, we hope that the donation process will increase, even more so, if we take into account that the main consumer of hemo components of the Hemocentro is the San Rafael Hospital, our most complex hospital. , which has the attention of the Trauma Code and the ICUs, so, clearly, that blood will be used to care for our own families and countrymen. It’s good that there is an option other than the itinerant days that are held in the municipalities of the department. Having a fixed point in the capital is key.”

Currently, the departmental government carries out several actions and provides the necessary space for this blood bank to be operated by the Homocentro del Centro Oriente Colombiano free of charge. This is a management that affirms the promise of the Boyacá government to take care of the lives of the Boyacá people.

The Hemocentro del Centro Oriente Colombiano is part of the National Network of Blood Banks, which is made up of 83, under the technical coordination of the National Institute of Health.
