Andreu renounces her role as regional deputy and will not choose to continue as general secretary of the PSOE

The general secretary of the PSOE in La Rioja, Concha Andreu, has today informed the party’s Executive of her decision to renounce her position as regional deputy in Parliament and not to run for re-election as general secretary in the next regional congress, still without date.

There had been speculation about Andreu’s departure, with greater or lesser intensity, since his defeat in the regional elections of 28M, a year ago, when the PP swept the autonomous community with an absolute majority and ended four years of socialist government. (in coalition with Podemos). The former president herself led the rose’s candidacy for the Senate in the general elections, although she then pointed out that she was going to make her seat in the Upper House compatible with that of the regional Parliament.

In a letter to the militancy, Andreu says goodbye to the members, thanking them for their support during these years: “For me it has been an indescribable honor to perform the responsibilities of general secretary during the last few years at your side.” In addition, she briefly reviews her political career: «From my inclusion in the regional candidacy in 2011 to be a regional deputy, to being elected part of the regional Executive, and later in the federal Executive of Pedro Sánchez. I also felt your support as a candidate for the presidency of the government, and together we achieved the Government of La Rioja. And to this I can add the privilege of having been elected general secretary and later senator for La Rioja.

In this letter, Andreu acknowledges her pride in having been the first woman to hold both the Presidency of the Autonomous Community and the General Secretariat of the PSOE in La Rioja. «I am fully aware that, without the entire PSOE and without you as a militant, she would not have achieved it.
