The first case involves Wilmer Anacona Bravo, who allegedly shot a dog named ‘Toby’ in the El Mesón neighborhood, Pitalito. Anacona reportedly attacked the canine after it entered his property. The injuries caused to the dog were so serious that he had to be rushed to a veterinary clinic to receive surgical care.

The second incident was recorded in the Chatasuga village, Choachí, on August 20, 2023. On this occasion, Wilson Javier Sánchez Barreto is accused of repeatedly shooting a dog called ‘Cónsul’. According to the complaints, Sánchez Barreto would have shot the canine because it had also entered his farm. As in the first case, ‘Consul’ was immediately taken to a veterinary clinic where he underwent surgery due to the severity of his injuries.

The prompt reaction of the authorities and veterinary interventions were crucial for the survival of both animals. The prosecution of these men underscores the importance of laws against animal abuse in Colombia and Gelma’s work to enforce them.
