Sacred Heart Community Service will be distributing free breakfast and lunch and will also offer a summer program to support children in the activities they need in San José.

“I like it a lot because it is something that I am passionate about, when they told me that if I wanted to volunteer at first I was afraid, and now that I have grown up and I have realized that it is a good thing, it opens the doors to many opportunities for me,” said Evelyn Hernández, Sacred Heart volunteer.

Alejandro González, program coordinator, indicated that the organization offers this summer program to help the little ones.

“With so much technology and video games, sometimes children stay with that and lose their learning in the summer, but here they can practice the subjects, here they can do it and if they need more support here we also give it to them, they also provide them with breakfast and free lunch,” González emphasized.

The summer academy is Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am -2:30 pm, at the Sacred Heart Community Center located at 1381 S 1Street in San José.

To be part of the summer academy you must meet the following requirements:

  • Provide most recent grades per student (March grades)
  • Have an emergency contact
  • Information from the doctor, dentist, allergies, etc.
  • A parent/guardian must be present to register students (no exceptions)

They have 100 places and until Monday afternoon there were more than 70 registrations.

Free breakfasts and lunches are for children under 18 years old, regardless of whether or not they are part of the summer program. Food is delivered from Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

June 19 will be closed as it is a holiday.
