lThe investigation into the strange death of the American Jaime Eduardo Cisneros, in a hotel in the Laureles neighborhood of Medellín, it has only just begun.

The events occurred on May 31 after Cisneros entered his room with a woman. And, minutes after the young woman left, the hotel receptionist began receiving messages asking questions about her credit card. When he went up to his room, he found him half naked, wrapped in a sheet and without vital signs.

EL TIEMPO revealed this Monday that Cisneros was an active member of the United States Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas.
Furthermore, although the result of the autopsy is still pending, his body was sent to that state and will be buried this June 20 at the funeral home. Angel Evergreen East, by his family (including his wife, two children, two brothers and his mother).
But there is a new and disturbing chapter within this investigation that has already moved to the United States.
TIME investigated and established that Cisneros did not travel to Colombia alone.
According to immigration records accessed by this newspaper, the American arrived in Colombia on a vacation plan with one of his companions.
They both appear moving through Medellín, but only Cisneros decided to extend his stay in the Paisa capital.

‘Committed suicide’

Sources Federal officials told this newspaper that after Cisneros’ strange death became known, his friend made the decision to take his own life.
“The case is being handled under absolute confidentiality because there is an open and ongoing investigation in both countries to establish what happened to the two agents.”explained the source.
EL TIEMPO communicated directly with Landon Hutchens, officer of the Public Affairs Office of the Border Control Patrol, in Texas, who confirmed that an investigation is currently being carried out to clarify the details of Cisneros’ death.
In addition, he confirmed the death of the second officer.
“Both investigations are being led by CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, as both deaths occurred while the officers were off duty.”Hutchens explained.
And he said that, for the investigation protocol of the US authorities, reports with more details about the deaths will only be made once the corresponding investigations are concluded.

Researchers have in his possession a copy of the ID that the woman presented to enter the place and seeks to establish or rule out the connection with a migrant trafficking network.
A source in Colombia indicates that they are waiting for the autopsy: “It is under study, but with a preliminary opinion of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis.”
It is suspected that Cisneros may have ingested some substance (unintentionally) and that there are other victims of a gang that would attract foreigners through networks.
This newspaper asked Medellín authorities about Cisneros’ partner and the suicide but they had no knowledge.
