La Rioja offers seven new possibilities to discover the night sky in the 12th edition of ‘Starry Nights’ – Spain

The La Rioja Biosphere Reserve offers this summer seven new possibilities to enjoy the ‘Starry Nights’ initiative that will begin this June 28 in Carbonera. A date with the Riojan sky – Starlight Destination for its quality – in which, in addition to getting to know the stars, you can enjoy other complementary activities to get to know these municipalities.

The general director of Natural Environment and Landscape, Ignacio Sáenz de Urturi, has presented the 12th edition of ‘Starry Nights’ together with the program coordinator, Carmen Bengoechea.

Sáenz de Urturi explained that the initiative will be carried out in the four valleys that make up the Biosphere Reserve – declared by UNESCO in 2003 -. The dates will take place between June 28 and August 24.

Furthermore, the general director wanted to thank all the entities that collaborate in the program such as the Astronomical Group of La Rioja, City Councils and local associations involved, local action groups and private entities.

Together with these astronomical observation activities, you can also enjoy guided walks, observation of nocturnal butterflies or photography workshops.

The capacity for each of the seven dates is over a hundred people and the Government of La Rioja informs of the need to reserve through Pasea.larioja.org.

HEAVEN AND HERITAGE

For his part, Bengoechea explained that these activities allow, in addition to getting to know the night sky, “discovering our tangible heritage, churches, hermitages, castles and bridges but also laundry and showers, part of mining, the connection of this area to footwear or chocolate and also our rituals and traditions”.

But above all, it allows you to see first-hand “the natural and cultural landscape of our region.”
