Another sharp increase in electricity and gas rates was expected at the beginning of July, but the national government decided to postpone the adjustment. In this way, they hope to reduce the impact on bills in a month with a high level of consumption.

The measure adopted by the Ministry of Economy, headed by Luis Caputo, also aims to mitigate the inflation rate. It should be remembered that both services registered large increases in June amid the reduction of subsidies.

A rate increase was planned for July to improve the margins of companies that provide regulated public services for the transportation and distribution of electricity and natural gas, reported Clarín. Thus, bills would have seen a new increase of between 2 and 3 percent.

With the decision made in the last few hours, the adjustment would be postponed for a month and the increase could only be applied to August consumption.

What will happen to fuels

For the beginning of July, a new increase in the fuel tax is confirmed, although it will be less than originally planned. In this case the rate will increase by 1 percent.

To this component, oil companies are expected to add the monthly devaluation. For this reason, the increase would be between 3 and 5 percent for gasoline and diesel.

With this provision, super gasoline would exceed 1,077 pesos in Córdoba taking into account the last update applied at the start of June.
