The Security Ministers of El Salvador, Gustavo Villatoro, and Argentina, Patricia Bullrich, signed an agreement this Tuesday to “strengthen” the fight against organized crime, official sources reported.

“Following the guidelines of the leaders of El Salvador and Argentina, our president @nayibbukele and president @JMilei, we have signed, together with Minister @PatoBullrich, a work agreement between our countries, with the firm commitment to strengthen the fight against organized crime,” Villatoro stated on the social network

As part of the work to be carried out between both nations, according to a joint statement, “specialized analysis spaces will be created to design strategies and develop innovative tools that allow us to effectively combat criminal groups.”

Bullrich began a four-day visit to El Salvador on Sunday to learn about the model applied by President Nayib Bukele to neutralize violent gangs and restore tranquility in the country.

“We share with the @MinSeg delegation from Argentina, the tools and actions that we have implemented in the development of the Territorial Control Plan, the successful security strategy that has left unprecedented results in our country,” Villatoro stressed.

On Sunday Bullrich toured a megaprison inaugurated in 2022 with capacity for 40,000 inmates, and this Tuesday Bukele received him at the government house.

“We are very impressed with the entire process, we got absolutely complete information,” Bullrich told the Salvadoran president.

In power since 2019, Bukele wages a “war” against gangs under an emergency regime in force since 2022 and which has more than 80,000 suspected gang members detained.

The emergency regime, which allows arrests without a court order, was decreed by Congress at the request of Bukele in response to an escalation of violence that claimed the lives of 87 people between March 25 and 27, 2022.
