Technological strengthening of the coffee sector in Huila.

With an investment close to 6,000 million pesos, the project was carried out that will strengthen the competitiveness of the coffee sector.

The above throughthe application of quality standards in the agro-industrialization processes of coffee beansand technologies in the harvest, post-harvest and agroindustry stages of coffee activity.

The technology installation project for the improvement of quality projects and generation of added value to the coffee growing of the departmentwill benefit several municipalities in the department,articulation with the Government of Huila and the Departmental Cooperative of Coffee Growers Ltda, Cadefihuila.

Fernando Vargas López, manager of Cadefihuila, indicated that “it is a new technological stage, the generation of added value is going to give us a lot of competitiveness,Through marketing, profit margins are higherand it will generate lower costs in intermediation, we will be able to transfer a better price to the producer, especially to the associates, but to all the coffee growers in the department.”

“The challenge is internationalization and being able to make the first exports of roasted coffee and we will be able to achieve it,Today we can do it and we will reach any client with confidenceand to be able to have support in the continuity of the product,” said Vargas López.

For his part, Rodrigo Villalba, governor of Huila, assured that “it is the entire coffee process and the industrialization of the product for the consumer,It is the beginning of some important achievements of agroindustrialization in which we are going to advance progressively in the departmentwhich is today the largest producer”.

With the capacity of installed equipmentThere will be 100,000 kilograms of wet parchment coffee per batch of 36 hours.Grain roasting capacity: 70 kilos batch / hour.

The beneficiary municipalities are 27, corresponding to 13 in the northern zone: Aipe, Algeciras, Baraya, Campoalegre, Colombia, Hobo, Íquira, Neiva, Palermo, Rivera, Santa María, Tello, and Teruel, five in the western zone:La Plata, La Argentina, Paicol, Nátaga, and Tesalia, nine in the southern zone: Acevedo, Elías, Isnos Oporapa, Palestine, Pitalito, Saladoblanco, San Agustín, and Timaná.

The project has a total investment:$5,751,764,977, with a contribution from the department: $4,015,435,484 corresponding to 70% and from Cadefihuila: $1,736,329,493 equivalent to 30%.

The drying area will be strengthened with the installation of 10 rectangle-type coffee drying silos, a roasting technology installation for the coffee bean roasting process,automated and with technology to preserve the organoleptic characteristics of coffee.

A vehicle that will allow the distribution of coffee beans,drying, roasting, grinding and packaging resulting from quality standardization processes.

In addition, there will be a coffee school that will allow the development of skillsin young rural coffee growers for the processes of cupping, barista and preparation of coffee-based foodsas a strategy for generational change and adding value to coffee.

And the coffee shop space that will have the installation of specialized equipment for the preparation ofbeverages and foods from coffee beans, as a business strategy and adding value to production and marketing.
