In the midst of the economic situation that the Argentine provinces are going through, since the arrival of the Government of Javier Milei, La Rioja managed to contain the price of electricity, water, internet and transportation rates. In this way, it positioned itself as one of the provinces with the lowest rates, thanks to the political decision of Governor Ricardo Quintela and the active presence of the State through the provision of quality services by state companies.
Electricity rate
Electric energy rates in La Rioja are segmented into categories N1, N2, N3 and commercial. Compared to other provinces, it is observed that EDELAR, the state electricity company in the province, offers considerably lower rates than other companies.
The energy rate is divided into N1, N2, N3 and commercial categories, each with different consumption limits and associated costs. During the months of February, March and April, different billings were observed in the N2, N3 and Commercial categories in the EDES and EDELAR companies. In category N2, which includes low-income families, with a subsidized consumption limit of 350 kilowatts at a value of 25,000 pesos per mega, the company EDES invoiced $183,000 and EDELAR $15,723.
In category N3, which covers middle class families, with a limit of 250 subsidized kilowatts, the company EDES invoiced $275,483 and EDELAR $17,941. In the N1 category, for high incomes, EDES invoiced $230,560 and EDELAR $78,905. In the Commercial category, with a consumption of 3000 KWH per month, EDESE invoiced $682,818 and EDELAR $107,769. EDELAR stands out as one of the companies with the most economical electricity rate.
Furthermore, Governor Ricardo Quintela, in April of this year, made the political decision to reverse the increase planned by the National Government for electricity rates, through a decree, to avoid affecting residential users and the commercial sectors. productive and industrial areas of La Rioja.
The water rate
Despite the water problems that the province faces, due to the geography and the prolonged drought that the country suffered, The drinking water service in La Rioja remains at reasonable prices compared to other provinces where considerable increases were observed due to the removal of subsidies by the National Government.
In March, the government of La Rioja announced for the first time that, based on an agreement with Aguas Riojanas, users in the province would pay the amount of water service corresponding to the last bill for that month. This is due to the economic situation that the country is going through, as a result of President Javier Milei’s adjustment to the Argentine provinces.

More than 90% of homes in La Rioja are connected to the services of the state company Internet para Todos, which offers competitive rates compared to other national companies.
