The institutional offer “Sailing to the Heart of Magdalena: I fell in love with Bolívar” arrived in Soplaviento

María Catalina Guzmán Martínez, a resident of the municipality of Soplaviento – Bolívar, was the first beneficiary of the journey “Sailing to the Heart of Magdalena: I fall in love with Bolívar”, this woman with reduced mobility received a new wheelchair at the door of her house that I needed it for eight years.

“My life used to be very uncomfortable because I live in precarious conditions. My parents are elderly and depend on me. Now, with this chair, my life is going to change,” said María Catalina Guzmán Martínez, a beneficiary of the journey.

This journey, led by the Colombian Navy and the Government of Bolívar, is carried out aboard the ARC Amphibious Landing Ship “Golfo de Morrosquillo”. The day in the municipality of Soplaviento is the first of eight that will be held in the towns connected by the Magdalena River for 21 days.

For his part, the Secretary of the Interior, Javier Doria, pointed out that the purpose is to meet the needs of the population, carrying out the “Justo Bolívar” program. “We cannot allow impunity and for the community to take justice into their own hands, which is why we go to the municipalities to bring full attention to access to justice.”

“About 2,000 people from the municipality of Soplaviento benefited from this institutional offer that also included services in health, recreation and social prevention,” said Marine Lieutenant Colonel Freddy Anderson Cortés Otálora, Head of the Department of Comprehensive Action. This journey is achieved thanks to the work of more than 200 volunteers, personnel of the Naval Institution, officials of the Government of Bolívar and private companies that, navigating the Magdalena River, take this great offer to the most remote territories of the department of Bolívar.
