Logroño, (EFE).- The summer in La Rioja will be warm, with temperatures above normal, and dry, according to the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), released this Thursday by its delegate in the Rioja community. , Paloma Castro.

Castro, in an information conference, presented the climatic characteristics of spring and the seasonal prediction for the summer of 2024.

He explained that summer, in the northern hemisphere, will begin at 10:51 p.m. this Thursday, and will end on September 22.

The forecast is that temperatures in La Rioja this summer will exceed the maximum averages recorded in previous years, which were 30.1 degrees in July, 29.8 in August and 25.8 in September.

He has also commented that, starting next June 26, an increase in temperatures is expected, which could reach up to 30 or 35 degrees; as well as occasional rainfall.

A warm and wet spring

Regarding spring, he pointed out that in La Rioja it has been warm and humid.
The month of March was warm; April, very warm; and May, normal; and, overall, the second spring quarter of the year has been the warmest since 1961 in La Rioja.

He added that, in terms of rainfall, March and May were wet and April was very dry.

In the case of Logroño, the average temperature was 13.7 degrees in spring, slightly higher than the 13.2 average recorded between 1991 and 2020; while precipitation reached 118.5 liters per square meter, 5.2 points less than that recorded between 1991 and 2020.

He has also referred to the agricultural year, between September 1, 2023 and August 31, 2024, which, until May 31, has been very humid in the Riojan community, with an average of 131%; and is ranked as the fifth largest in the series between 1961 and 2024.

As of June 17, the water impounded in La Rioja reached 136 cubic hectometers, 71.58%, a percentage higher than that of the same week in 2023, which was 67.89%, with 129 cubic hectometers; and the average of the last 10 years in the same period, set at 63.84%, with 121 cubic hectometers.
