The commercial area of Colombia is in critical moments due to the lack of implementation of policies that help the sector raise its productivity levels. For this reason, the National Federation of Merchants (Fenalco) launched “Primatón”, an initiative to reactivate commerce and support brands after a discouraging semester for the Colombian economy.
Thus, Fenalco announced that citizens who go to commercial premises with the seal of Primatón will receive massive discounts on several products. The initiative will take place between June 28 and 30 and will be available at both physical and virtual locations. So far, more than 200 brands have joined the Guild’s invitation, however, businesses that have not yet joined can do so at no cost on the Fenalco website and receive the seal to use in their stores and advertising campaigns. .
Regarding the implementation of the initiative, the president of Fenalco, Jaime Alberto Cabal, stated that large stores, chain stores, shopping centers and large e-commerce platforms have joined the initiative. As well as micro, small and medium-sized businesses with doors to the street have also become part. For this reason, Cabal indicated that Primatón “is a great opportunity for citizens to take advantage of unique prices with discounts of up to 80% and of course for merchants to boost their sales and start a second semester with better expectations.”
According to Fenalco’s economic log, Until May 2024, there were 17 consecutive months with a negative balance in sales. Despite holidays such as Mother’s Day, the market did not meet its expectations. From the Guild they affirm that one of the reasons why sales have suffered a precipitous drop is due to the high costs transferred by the government to the business sector. In addition, it points to legal uncertainty, distrust in institutions, budget execution by the National Government and the lack of a shock plan.
