In an emotional act full of hope and solidarity, the IE Foundation of the company Internacional de Eléctricos radically changed the life of Santiago Soto, a young man from Ibagueño with great sporting dreams.
Santiago, a former soccer player who lost a leg due to a serious injury on the playing field, received a prosthesis that will allow him to pursue his passion for Paralympic athletics.
The delivery of this prosthesis represents much more than simple physical help; It is the resurgence of the hopes and goals of Santiago, who did not give up in the face of adversity and found in adapted sports a new opportunity to shine in competitions, with the clear objective of representing Tolima and Colombia at the international level.
“My short-term projection is to represent Tolima in all the upcoming tournaments and be able to bring the medals that can be achieved,” Santiago expressed excitedly, evidencing his determination and commitment to his sports career.
The linking of the IE Foundation with Santiago was developed through mutual contacts that highlighted the situation of the young athlete. Gloria Grimaldo, a prominent member of the foundation’s board of directors, shared that support arose naturally from learning about Santiago’s story and his bravery in facing new sporting challenges.
“We met him and wanted to get in touch with him because we thought we should support sports. He is a child and sports are very important to us. We contacted his parents (…) and there we began to organize how we were going to buy him prosthesis to donate it,” said Grimaldo, highlighting the commitment of the IE Foundation with the comprehensive development of young sports talents.
Currently, the IE Foundation Not only is it dedicated to supporting athletes like Santiago, but it also does invaluable work on behalf of children in vulnerable conditions. Through programs that include school routes, snacks, psychological and training support, the foundation ensures an environment conducive to personal growth and the promotion of social values and behaviors.
