The main suspect is the boyfriend of one of them, who is detained.
Brunette Marcela Banegas (20) and Luz Nahir Banegas (23), niece and aunt, respectively, were wanted since Tuesday in Santiago del Estero. And today they were found dead in the rural area of Robles.
The women, who studied together as Primary Education teachers, were stabbed to death inside a car, where their bodies were found as part of a police operation. In the case, the partner of one of them is detained.
The search operation had begun after they did not return from college on Tuesday night. A police operation was deployed between the city of La Banda and several areas of Robles. Shortly before 6 a.m. today, the discovery of a Gol similar to the one used by Luz, one of the victims, was reported. She was about 150 meters from the asphalt.
Inside the vehicle were the victims: Morena, lying in the passenger seat with all her clothes stained with blood, while her aunt was equally injured, but lying outside the car, on the grass. Both had signs of having been stabbed, given that they had injuries allegedly caused by a knife in various parts of their bodies.
The same night that the young women disappeared, a man had shown up at the Comprehensive Health Center in the city of La Banda requesting medical assistance for a wound to one of his hands. He was cut and entered with a lot of blood.
The main suspect
He was identified as Gabriel Cejas, the boyfriend of Morena Banegas, who explained to the Police that he had been the victim of a robbery. According to El Liberal, the young man said that three hooded men had attacked him and that they had taken his motorcycle, his cell phone and his jacket.
The agents acted on this complaint and set out to search for the alleged thieves. Also the belongings of the alleged victim. In this context, the troops found his jacket and also a diver, who was near a canal and covered in blood.
At the same time, the complaint was made to find out the whereabouts of the two missing women. And when this situation became known, the Prosecutor’s Office set off alarm bells and began to suspect Cejas’ story.
The young women were found murdered after a few hours. And upon verifying the close link that the man had with one of the victims of the femicide, the agents proceeded to arrest him as the main suspect in the crime.
