As detailed by the Chamber of Fuel Distributors of Jujuy, in the neighboring Salta city of Güemes, the cost of diesel exceeds that charged in San Salvador de Jujuy despite the road tax that is already in force.

According to the comparative table, Infìnia Diesel pays $1,299 per liter and $1,099 for the ultra, versus $1,296 and $1,095, respectively, including the Road Tax in our capital.

Given the recent statements by the president of the Chamber of Fuel Distributors of Jujuy, Alfredo González, about the road tax and its impact on public transportation, where he suggests that he will be forced to load fuel in other provinces, such as Salta to avoid the rate, it follows that it would be more expensive to carry out that equation.

In that sense, González mentioned that the implementation of the road tax “could lead public transport companies and other large fuel consumers to load in neighboring towns, such as Güemes, Salta.”

However, the capital’s Municipality reported that this argument omits a crucial point, which is that in Güemes, the price of diesel is 4 to 5 pesos more expensive per liter compared to Jujuy. “This fact calls into question the logic of moving fuel loads to another province, since any savings from avoiding it would be offset by the higher cost of fuel in Salta. Even more so if we add to this the cost of the transfer and consequent wear and tear of the vehicle from the distance traveled,” they indicated.

It is worth remembering that the implementation of the road tax in the municipality of San Salvador de Jujuy arose from a need for financing for public works due to the paralysis in public works announced by the Nation, and the lack of a co-participation law that guarantees its autonomy. financial.

The funds raised through this tax, they explained, are intended to improve the city’s road infrastructure, an issue that is currently carried out with its own resources, and that will benefit all citizens, including public transportation users.

Taking into account that the head of the Chamber of Dispensers of the province questioned the transparency in the use of public funds, the capital municipality stated that the transparency of what is collected is non-negotiable “but first it must be collected.” Currently, these funds are in the hands of the stations “until July 25, they make the corresponding sworn statements and submit the proceeds.” For now, the works that are being carried out are financed with our own resources.

“Alfredo González’s claims that public transport will be forced to refuel in other provinces due to the road tax are not only unfounded, but also ignore the realities of the fuel market in neighboring regions. The implementation of the road tax in Jujuy is a necessary measure in the face of the lack of national financing, with a clear purpose of improving road infrastructure for the benefit of all inhabitants,” the Municipality considered.
