Festival | Music: Luis Fonsi triumphs with his spectacular concert on the last day of the Gran Reserva

The Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi has undoubtedly been the winner of the last day of the Gran Reserva festival, held in the parking lot of the Calahorra cathedral, on the Holika grounds. The final day had four soloists on the bill. In addition to Luis Fonsi, Álex Ubago, Bustamante and Edurne performed.

The Vitorian artist Álex Ubago opened the concerts on Saturday after five in the afternoon. He is in the final stretch of his twentieth anniversary tour and came accompanied by a band of four musicians (guitar, bass, keyboard and drums). With ‘What are you asking for’ he made the audience sing from the first moment. ‘Traveling with you’, ‘Idiot’, ‘Dancing on the wire’, ‘Between your mouth and mine’, ‘Tied to you’, ‘Do you know?’, ‘A thousand hours’, ‘I’m still here’ (from the film ‘The Treasure Planet’), took place on the Calagurritano stage. At some moments Álex Ubago played the acoustic guitar, at others the electric guitar and he also performed, dedicating himself only to his vocal duties.

He sang ‘Even though I can’t see you’ with a sea of arms raised interacting with the artist and then it was time for another of his most representative songs ‘I’m dying to meet you’, with all the people singing the lyrics. She ended with ‘Dame tu aire’ and ‘Vuelve’, a composition with which she said goodbye saying “thank you very much, Calahorra. Be happy, happy summer and see you soon. Afterwards she put on a red scarf from the Calahorra festivities and left the stage hugging Bustamante who had witnessed the end on the right side. With a simple, sober staging, without artifice, the lyrics and music predominated and the people applauded the performance that inaugurated an intense day and in which he demonstrated that he was more than capable on stage.

During the change of scene, Sergio Moya played and after seven in the afternoon it was the turn of television’s David Bustamante. The Cantabrian, who began his career after being part of the first edition of Operación Triunfo that was broadcast by Spanish Television in 2001, is on the rise due to his participation in the program ‘Your face sounds to me’ on Antena 3.

He came out with a leather jacket, sunglasses and a four-piece band (guitar, drums, keyboardist and bass). He addressed the audience constantly, offered his characteristic dance movements and voices, threw a bottle of water and several small cloth towels that he used to dry the sweat and his followers tried to grab on the fly. He also had her most carefree moments when she put on glasses that someone threw at her and said that she was going to sing like Paulina Rubio or when she thanked a girl for wearing her fragrance, taking the opportunity to promote her.

He didn’t have a very good time on stage (or so it seemed at certain moments) and he went on numerous occasions, almost between songs, to one side where there was a high table full of bottles of water that he couldn’t stop drinking.

He asked those present if they saw ‘Your face sounds familiar to me’ and if they liked the imitation he did of Joaquín Sabina with which he won the last gala and asked that they not miss the final gala.

Regarding his repertoire, he began with ‘Devuélveme la vida’. She sang ‘Happy’, ‘Heroes in times of war’ and ‘Like you none’, among others.

He dedicated his song ‘El día que te vas’ (published in March) to toxic people and ‘Two men and a destiny’ to the remembered Alex Casademunt (who died in a traffic accident) with whom at the time he made a duet with this composition. The audience began to sing it with emotion.

He continued with ‘Cobarde’, ‘Abrazame very strong’, ‘Clear my skin’ and, for the first time live, as he explained, he performed the recently released ‘Hola que tal’, thanking his followers for reaching number one. There was no shortage of ‘A contracorriente’ and ‘El aire que me give’ with their unmistakable ‘oh, eh, oh, eh/oh, eh, oh, oh, ah…’ before leaving.

The background music with The DJs played while another change of scene took place, removing Bustamante’s screens to put up the scenery that the next artist, Luis Fonsi, would use.

At nine in the evening, Luis Fonsi’s show began, offering the best staging of the day for an hour and a half, with a demonstration of quality, exceptional timing management, and the use of different technical elements. and a successful selection of the repertoire that dazzled the large audience due to its stylistic variety (ballads, pop, bachatas and even some rock touches) and its good work.

The music played live with his band (guitarist, drummer, bassist and a singer who, in addition to the choirs, played the acoustic guitar) before Luis Fonsi came out on stage with his guitar. For a good part of the performance there was a dance group made up of two male and female dancers, constant projections on the background and side screens (including images that showed their evolution since childhood) and pre-recorded voices in the case of the published songs. with other artists, as well as columns of flames and smoke at the edge of the stage.

The lively and cheerful ‘Heart in the Suitcase’ showed from the beginning what the musician was going to offer.

He played ‘Vacío’ and presented ‘Imagíname sin ti’ as the first song he released in Spain 24 years ago. She followed with ‘Nothing is Forever’ and the danceable ‘Calypso’. There was no shortage of ‘Imposible’ and the live premiere of ‘Roma’ that she recorded with Laura Pausini. It is one of the songs on her new album ‘El Viaje’ with which she also commemorates her twenty-five-year career. It was curious since it was the city of Rome and it was performed in the impressive setting that symbolizes the Roman empire.

‘I wish I could forget about you’, ‘Scream’, ‘Kiss me’ (which he recorded with Myke Towers, one of the headliners of the upcoming Holika festival), ‘I don’t give up’ (with people chanting and with cell phones loud) and ‘Here I am’ also with everyone singing. She linked ‘Apaga la luz’ with ‘Por una mujer’ and a guitar nod to the group Queen.

On the night of Calahorra, ‘Marbella’, a song by Luis Fonsi with Omar Montes, played.

There was an aside when he asked “are you guys tired? I’m going home? we stopped?” and the cries of ‘noooo’ followed one another.

The party continued with the version of ‘I wanna dance with somebody’ (Whitney Houston) while the singer introduced his band members and dancers.

At the end of the song they left to return and say goodbye with ‘Échame la culpa’ and ‘Despacito’, leaving the audience in a high moment with sound effects, fire, smoke and throwing of confetti.

Once again there was background music with The DJs for a new change of scenery.
