Information on deliveries of the basic basket for next week

In the midst of a growing food shortage that affects all of Cuba, the recent publication by Tribuna de La Habana has revealed details about the distribution of basic products in the capital’s warehouses.

Despite the insufficiencies, the people of Havana are in a relatively more favorable situation compared to the inhabitants of the interior of the island, who receive even less food.

Food and products in distribution:

May earrings:

Compote: 13 boxes have been distributed per child up to 2 years, 11 months and 29 days. The distribution is about to be completed.
Salt: Salt from the months of February to May is being recovered.

June deliveries:

Rice: Each consumer receives 7 pounds. The distribution remains constant.
Beans: Each consumer receives 10 ounces. Distribution is still underway.
Peas: Delivery of 10 ounces per consumer continues.
Compote: The distribution of 13 boxes per child up to 2 years, 11 months and 29 days began.
Pasta: One free package per consumer, whose distribution continues.
Sardines: The delivery of two free cans to children up to 13 years, 11 months and 29 days old, coming from donations, continues.
Quail eggs: 30 units for pregnant women, with distribution that is still ongoing.

As expected, the amount of products distributed per capita is insufficient to satisfy the daily needs of the population. Staple foods, such as rice and grains, are rationed in minimal quantities, and other products are considered a luxury in the rest of the country.

The inhabitants of Havana, although they also face shortages, have access to a greater variety and quantity of products compared to those who live in the interior provinces. This situation has generated a feeling of inequality and frustration among Cubans who do not reside in the capital.

For more information about the distribution of food from the basic basket, citizens can contact the Provincial Commerce Company of Havana through telephone numbers 7204-7185 for questions about food and 7204-6980 for non-food products.
