During the tribute and exaltation that the Atlantic Government made to the athletes of the department who achieved places in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the director of Indeportes, Iván Urquijo, announced the financial amount that they will obtain in case of obtaining medals in the fairs that start on July 26.

At the event this Monday, June 24, 2024, Cristian Ortega, the cyclist who will represent Colombia in track events, was present at the Government headquarters; the mother of Gabriela Bolle, who will be cycling, and the father of Angie Valdés, the boxer from Barranquilla, where great possibilities for medals are focused. The governor of Atlántico congratulated the athletes and parents who attended, “because parents are the driving force of these athletes. The financial support given by the Government is worthless if they do not have the support and strength of the family. We wish them the best wishes for the Paris fairs.”

Helmut Bellingrodt, head of the Colombian delegation at the Paris Olympic Games, said: “we have to clarify that these athletes go to Paris not because the Atlantic Government wants it, but because they achieved the marks and records to be there. “If that were the case, each Department or country would send the athletes it wanted.”

The athletes Angie Valdés and Gabriela Bolle did not attend the exaltation made by the Atlantic Government, because they are in Europe.

Cristian Ortega Fontalvo, who was present at the induction, was happy to represent Colombia and the Atlantic at the Paris Olympic Games. “I am very happy, when I received the news I almost fell, I couldn’t believe it, but things have happened and I hope to do my best to bring the country a medal.”

When asked who would be the rivals to beat, he did not hesitate to answer: “my rival is myself. Every day I wake up with the goal of surpassing what I did the day before. As I said before: I hope to do my best to get medals for Colombia and the Atlantic, of course.”

At that same event, in a question posed by this reporter, the director of Indeportes Atlántico, Iván Urquijo, announced that the athletes registered by the Department will have an economic incentive depending on the achievement of medals they achieve for Colombia. “Those who win the gold medal will have an economic incentive of 40 million pesos, those who win the silver medal: $30 million and the bronze medal: $20 million,” said Urquijo. Who did not disclose the amount they will receive if they win a diploma.

To say that to date Colombia has 78 athletes classified for the Paris Olympic Games, 7 more than the largest delegation that the country has taken to the Olympic Games, but with the clarification that, on that occasion, in Japan 2020, they all went in individual sports and this time there are 18 of the women’s soccer team. It is hoped that 90 will go to the City of Light.
