Staff of the Squadron 16 “Clorinda” and the “Comandante Fontana” Reconnaissance Unit of the National Gendarmerie seized almost 800 kilos of marijuana during an operation in “Porteño Norte” neighborhood in the early hours of Sunday.
The operation began when a patrol observed a woman riding a motorcycle with three large packages and when stopping her for a check, the gendarmes detected a strong smell of “cannabis sativa.” Later, the woman reported that there were more similar lumps on the banks of the Pilcomayo River.
The gendarmes notified the Federal Court No. 1 and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office No. 1 of Formosawho authorized a search of the area and upon securing the area, found other 79 nylon bags with the same substance, and the woman was arrested.
Subsequently, the drugs were transferred to the Unit seat, where the Criminalistics and Forensic Studies staff conducted field tests Narcotest, confirming that the packages contained 796 kilos 885 grams of marijuana buds.
The Court and the Prosecutor’s Office ordered the carrying out of the corresponding actions, as well as the confiscation of all the drugs and the motorcycle involved.
And in other seizures of substances, in two operations also carried out by troops of the National Gendarmerie but in the territory of the province of Misiones at the end of last April, more than a ton of marijuana was seized.
In the first of them, the Core Section and “Hope” Sectiondependent on Squadron 10 of the National Gendarmeriein collaboration with the staff of the “Eldorado” Complex Crimes and Judicial Procedures Investigation Unitcarried out a coordinated operation after receiving information about the location of hidden packages in the mountainous area known as “El Brasilero”, located in Puerto Esperanza.
After exchanging data, the agents reported the discovery to the corresponding judicial authority, which led to authorization for the transfer of the packages to the unit for subsequent evaluation. At the scene, the presence of 45 packages containing marijuana buds and another two with 28 pressed packages, totaling a weight of 1,058 kilograms and 95 grams of “cannabis sativa”.
In the other procedure carried out yesterday in Misiones, gendarmes of the “San Pedro” Sectionbelonging to the Squadron 12 “Bernardo de Irigoyen”, deployed in the kilometer 65 of Provincial Route No. 17, in the “La Antena” area, They saw a motorcycle with two occupants approaching the device and upon noticing the presence of force, the individuals fled aboard the vehicle.
Given what happened, the security force agents then began a controlled follow-up and, at a short distance, observed how the suspects entered a dirt road and threw a backpack before escaping and after inspecting its contents, the experts forensics confirmed the presence of 22 “bricks” containing a total of 17 kilos and 486 grams of marijuana.
In both cases, the Federal Court and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of Eldorado They ordered the confiscation of a total of 1,075 kilograms and 581 grams of drugs.
