The Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla extended the call to parents and caregivers so that children and adolescents get up to date with their vaccines this holiday season and thus be protected from many diseases that can be serious.

The mid-year holiday season coincides with a rainy season and sudden changes in climate, which can affect the well-being of people with respiratory viral infections, which is why it is necessary to start, continue and complete the vaccines that are part of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), which contains 21 biologics to prevent 30 diseases.

“These vaccines are applied free of charge, without access barriers in the PASO, the CAMINO and in the vaccinating IPS; That is why it is important that during this school break they take their children to be vaccinated and if they are going to travel, they review the vaccination schedules to ensure that the entire family is protected,” said Stephanie Araujo Blanco, district secretary of Health.

He also stressed the importance of applying boosters, some vaccines require 2 and 3 doses. “It is necessary to complete the schedule to ensure the effectiveness of the vaccine, because in many cases they apply the first dose and do not return to the vaccination point,” added the official.

The vaccines available from the EPI: Pentavalent (Diphtheria-Pertussis-Tetanus or DPT), Influenza, Polio, Rotavirus, Pneumococcus, Measles, Rubella, Hepatitis A and B, Yellow Fever, Chickenpox and vaccines against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and covid-19.
