Bogotá shone with the launch of the Fiesta del Mar 2024

In a great event full of joy, a musical show and many emotions, the launch of the Fiesta del Mar 2024 “El Origen”, in its 65th edition, was held in Bogotá, chaired by the mayor of Santa Marta, Carlos Pinedo Cuello, the Secretary of District Culture, Darío Linero, and the Samarian singer-songwriter, Carlos Vives.

The guests of this meeting with tradition met at the Cumbia House Gaira restaurant, with the presence of the first Social Manager, Bleydis Pérez; the National Captain of the Sea 2023, Daniela Restrepo; Miss Santa Marta in the National Captaincy contest, Laura Angulo; the ambassador of the Sea Heading to 500 years, Ana Sofía Urbina; secretaries of the district cabinet and personalities from various social sectors that represent the roots of Santa Marta.

Under the theme “The Origin”, the official brand of the Fiesta del Mar 2024, which will take place from July 25 to 29, the promotion of this celebration that brings together residents of Santa Marta, national and foreign visitors, as well as lovers of water sports and local culture, began.

The Mayor of Santa Marta, Carlos Pinedo Cuello, during his speech, made a warm invitation to this celebration, highlighting the importance of sharing this experience with family and friends: “We want all of you, as well as your families and friends, to join us in Santa Marta to live this unique experience, feel the sea breeze, enjoy our traditions and celebrate with us this historic milestone.”

He also said that “The Fiestas del Mar must shine again with the splendor that characterized them in the past and fills us with pride. It will be a tribute to our roots and traditions, a tribute to all those who have made Santa Marta a special place.”

Likewise, Mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello called on all citizens to become Ambassadors of the Sea Festival: “We want to put the eyes of Colombia and the world on Santa Marta. Tonight, we invite everyone to be ambassadors of the Fiesta del Mar. Help us spread the word, to tell all of Colombia and the world about this wonderful celebration. “We want to see our hotels at maximum capacity, hosting many tourists who come to enjoy the festivities in this unique corner of the Colombian Caribbean.”

Finally, the mayor urged the community to build a prosperous future for Santa Marta together: “Let’s make the Fiesta del Mar 2024 an unforgettable celebration, a brilliant prelude to the 500 years of history and tradition of our beloved Santa Marta. Together, we can make this festival shine brighter than ever, always remembering our origins and building together a future full of hope and prosperity for our beloved, twice-holy city.”

Also, during this meeting full of emotions, Mayor Carlos Pinedo Cuello appointed the singer-songwriter from Santa Marta Carlos Vives as “Ambassador of the Sea, Towards 500 Years”, highlighting his talent, intellectual and artistic qualities, and the knowledge he has of the culture of Santa Marta. “Vives will be the ambassador of our city at a local, national and international level, in the programs and actions aimed at the Celebration of the 500 years of the city of Santa Marta, which begin with the Fiesta del Mar 2024,” said Mayor Pinedo Cuello.

Next, the district secretary of Culture, Darío Linero, presented a quick overview of the agenda of events that the 65th edition of the Fiesta del Mar 2024 will offer, which commemorates the 499 years of the Pearl of America. This agenda includes cultural, sporting and traditional events such as the Travesía Fotográfica Festival, the MarPesca Festival, the Cocina Samaria Festival, folkloric parades – which this year begin with children who will have their own space -, free musical events, the cultural forum to exalt the life and work of José “Pepe” Alzamora, the traditional Serenade to Santa Marta and the election of the National and District Captain of the Sea 2024.

During the launch event, Carlos Vives gave a musical presentation, performing his best songs, those that carry the flavor of Santa Marta and the seal of Cumbia House Gaira, which inside keeps all the tradition and flavor of the city of Santa Martha.
