“Since last year we signed an agreement with Brazil and the great news is that Construction of the highway between Tabatinga (Brazil) and Leticia (Colombia) will begin on July 1. “We are connecting Leticia through Brazil and it will help enormously to solve the connectivity problems in the Amazon. It was impossible to do it through Colombia, because it involved crossing the entire jungle and the most viable solution was to do it with the support of Brazil,” explained Mauricio Lizcano.
During the current government, an effort has been made with investment of resources to close the connectivity gaps in the country. In this regard, the head of the telecommunications portfolio provided an assessment of the execution of these government plans.
“We are connecting the Pacific, We have 36 municipalities on the Cauca and Nariñense coasts. The other week we hope to sign an agreement with the president to connect Quibdó and Tumaco with fiber optics. We have also connected half of La Guajira and in a month the strategy continues in the south of the Caribbean, Vaupés, Guainía and Vichada,” said Lizcano.
In recent years, Colombia has been trying to become an attractive country for investors who are thinking about developing artificial intelligence (AI), and in this regard, an announcement was also made regarding a request that the country had submitted months ago to form one of the most exclusive clubs worldwide in this area.
“Yesterday we were notified by the Global Alliance of Artificial Intelligence, the alliance where the G7 countries are, We had applied to this alliance and Colombia will be included in this exclusive club that leads artificial intelligence in the world“, said the ICT Minister.
Among the announcements that will be made today during the Andesco Congress, the portfolio of technology and communications will provide details on the ten-year connectivity plan for the national territory.
“Today we present to Colombia the strategy, with completed projects, for connectivity for the next 10 years. We conducted a study and will leave a Compes with resources to guarantee the implementation of connectivity projects, “so that investments can improve the infrastructure necessary to resolve connectivity problems in the national territory,” said Minister Lizcano.
