The Superintendence of Surveillance and Private SecurityHe banned patrols and private security operations that replace the functions of the Police in Sincelejo, a measure announced by Mayor Yahir Acuña.

The decision made by the entity came after an extraordinary visit on June 21 to inspect the Private Security and Surveillance company VIPERS LTDA.

“Precautionary measure ordering immediate suspension of patrol activities and in general of all those that involve the conservation and restoration of public order, as these are activities exclusively reserved for the public force in the exercise of its constitutional mission”reads the statement.

This decision did not please Mayor Yahir Acuña, who came out to defend his position and told Blu Radio that the contract with the private security company was awarded legally.

The decision taken by the Superintendency especially affects motorized and armed security, an implementation taken by the administration, the president indicated.

Acuña also said that the measure does not affect any surveillance work.

“These are alternatives that the law allows us”the mayor pointed out and also defended mobile surveillance, which he assures will not compete with the patrol functions of the agents.

“The security guards are instructed with clear instructions to prevent crime, persuade its commission and anticipate incidents, following rigorous protocols established by the Superintendency and the Private Security Law”he added.

He concluded by expressing the importance of the security guards and the colors they used: “They have to provide us with services in accordance with what a resolution from both the Ministry of Defense and the Superintendency says. It is clear that they have three colors authorized by the Superintendency: black, blue and brown”.
