The emblematic park of the Tolimenses was filled with múcuras, totumas and the gastronomic legacy of the Pijao people.

The celebration

For the first time, Manuel Murillo Toro Park in Ibagué was the setting for the celebration of Chicha Tolimense Day. This event, supported by ordinance 0010 of 2024, brought together 40 producers of this ancient drinkwho offered a delicious gastronomic experience to both residents and tourists.

The event highlighted the cultural and gastronomic importance of chichaa traditional drink that has been an integral part of the history and identity of Tolima. Attendees were able to taste various varieties of chicha, made with techniques and recipes passed down from generation to generation.

«We successfully completed Chicha Tolimense Day. We achieved sales of $10,485,000 and 40 chicha producing exhibitors “They met today here at Manuel Murillo Toro Park,” mentioned Jennifer Hernandez, director of tourism.

The celebration not only served to highlight the culinary wealth of the regionbut also to strengthen the sense of community and promote local tourism. Participants enjoyed music, dancing and a variety of typical dishes.

“We did very well today with the chicha. In Ibagué they really liked chicha, you can feel that touch, that chicha is delicious. Thank God we have done very well,” mentioned Idalia Romero, chicha producer from the municipality of Ortega.

Chicha Tolimense Day has proven to be an excellent opportunity for local producers to show their talent and keep the culinary traditions of Tolima alive, contributing to the economic and cultural development of the region.
