The community of the Puerto López district in El Bagre, municipality of Bajo Cauca Antioquia has experienced moments of panic and terror in recent days due to the actions of three groups outside the law that operate in this territory, because of this, have taken to the streets to protest and ask for guarantees from the Government.

The demonstration took place this Friday, June 28, in the morning. With banners and in a peaceful manner, the inhabitants of the district rejected the actions of the FARC dissidents, the Colombian Gaitanista Army (EGC) –previously called Clan del Golfo– and the ELN.

In addition to the peaceful protest, the Association of Agroecological and Mining Brotherhoods published a statement with some demands to the National Government and local governments.

In the document, the farmers of the area demand from the Ministry of the Interior and the Protection Unit individual and collective prevention and protection measures, also that the The National Government is making progress in dialogues and agreements with the groups that are present in the area.

The farmers in the area are also asking that the Attorney General’s Office and the Prosecutor’s Office investigate the events that have been reported, in addition to the support of international organizations.

In this area there is a territorial dispute by the ELN, EGC, and the dissidents because Puerto López has a privileged location, being a departure to the subregions of Bajo Cauca and Northeast of Antioquia, as well as Magdalena Medio and the South of the department of Bolívar.

The inhabitants have been in the middle of the fire, especially merchants, who amid orders and counter-orders have closed and opened their establishments.

Governor Andrés Julián Rendón visited the area on Tuesday; However, trade has been inactive there for five days and the population is confined.
