The 319 million peso initiative developed and presented by the Victoria Project Accelerator Center will also allow for the implementation of training programs for parents and guardians, technical assistance and support for educational centers.
Improving the quality of life of people with Autism Spectrum Disorders through the implementation of training programs for parents and guardians, technical assistance and support for educational centers, are some of the essential objectives of the Pro TEA Training and Technical Assistance Transfer Program of the Tarapacá Region.
A project developed by the Victoria Regional Social Projects Accelerator Center after multiple meetings held with representatives of the Afanea Foundation, Mundo Teadown, TEA+ and Centro Autismo Iquique, who went to the office of the Governor of Tarapacá, José Miguel Carvajal, to present him with the folder with this initiative that includes another essential milestone: the creation of a space for integration.
“We are very happy and, why not say it, excited about the result of the work carried out by organizations that work with children with ASD in the Tarapacá region, who support a tremendous pilot program that translates into the creation of a neurodivergent center that will be located in Iquique and that, in addition to being unprecedented, can be seen as the prelude to the construction of the large center that we seek to build on Santiago Polanco Street,” said the Governor of Tarapacá, José Miguel Carvajal, who emphasized that the 319 million pesos project that has just been presented to the Regional Government of Tarapacá, is a step forward for an agenda as significant as the inclusion agenda in the region.
“It is not a mystery that families who today have boys and girls under this condition feel a little alone, so we believe that from the Government of Tarapacá we will be able to give them priority to obtain funds and continue to take breath, gain strength and allow ourselves advance an agenda that matters to us and is extremely necessary in Tarapacá,” concluded Carvajal, who thanked the related groups and Victoria, a center executed by the Tarapacá Development Corporation and financed by TeckQB.
Finally, Carvajal specified that the project will now go through the respective technical evaluation stages and will soon be presented for financing approval at the Tarapacá Regional Council.
The best gift
Cristina Álvarez Flores, president of the Afanea Corporation, a group of parents, family and friends who seek to satisfy the different needs of people with ASD, stated that this project fulfills the greatest desire pursued in the 12 years of life that they fulfilled, precisely , the present day.
“Having a physical space, even if it is temporary, will allow us to host, work and perform many functions with our families. The truth is that for many years we have been knocking on doors and now, finally, Governor Carvajal and the Victoria Accelerator shelter us and show us that it is possible to fulfill this dream,” said the president of Afanea, who declared that in this space that is about to be realized “we will be able to do many things, from caring for our boys and girls to promoting workshops with professionals who help us strengthen the integration of young people and adults, because the condition of autism is a lifelong condition” .
In this regard, Cristina explained that today Afanea has children from 2 years old to people of 40 years old, who through constant and multiple stimulation through therapies, manage to achieve the maximum individual development of people who have autism and Asperger syndrome.
“I can’t stop imagining how this project will help us to enhance teaching, learning and improvement opportunities through courses, talks and training sessions that we direct to parents and relatives of people with autism and Asperger’s, to teachers and education professionals who seek to support inclusion in classrooms and to health professionals who increasingly need to improve their diagnostic and management tools for the early detection of Autism and its correct approach. Thank you very much.”
