more than 300 vehicles in first delivery

This week, business representatives in Cuba provided information on the progress of the “guasabitas” factory on the island, which was established by the Russian manufacturer Ulyanovski Avtomobilny Zavod (UAZ). More than 300 vehicles are expected to be delivered and what other plans are there.

A year ago, at a business meeting between representatives of Russia and Cuba held in Havana at the end of May 2023, an agreement was signed to establish an assembly base for UAZ vehicles on Cuban territory. UAZ is the manufacturer of the so-called “guasabitas” in Cuba.

Then, they reported that the first batch of kits of these Russian all-terrain vehicles would arrive on the island between July and August 2023, according to Russian media. What came in this first batch? UAZ Profi, this robust and versatile model is ideal for the hard work and demanding conditions of the Cuban terrain and the UAZ Loaf ambulances.

In addition, Boris Titov, who was authorized by the Russian president to protect the rights of entrepreneurs, announced plans at that time to organize the assembly of UAZ vehicles in Havana, as well as the creation of service centers for the repair and maintenance of these vehicles on the island.

What has changed a year later, according to the Russian press, like Sputnik?

Guasabitas in Cuba: 300 vehicles in first delivery

Priorities have not changed much. A year later, according to this week’s Sputnik report, priority will be given to the production of the Patriot and Pickup models. In a second phase, the assembly of light-duty vehicles of the Profi brand is planned. Will we see more guasabitas on the streets of Cuba, as many as 300 vehicles?

Agreement includes the adaptation of Pickup trucks for use as hearses, one of the main current problems in the Transportation sector.

“We also continue the exchange of products between the two countries and we intend to expand the line of UAZ cars in Cuba. We can contribute in all spheres where there is a need for transportation,” said Miguel Ángel Pedroso Madin, Business Director of EISA in Havana.

In this first stage, between 300 and 350 cars will be delivered. This figure could increase depending on needs and demand, the Russians assured.
