In response to A series of fatal accidents occurred in the last 11 days in TucumánThe Government is evaluating the implementation of alternative routes and the improvement of signage on the busiest roads in the province.

Vicente Nicastrohead of the Provincial Transportation Secretariat, stressed the importance of these measures during an interview with LA GACETA, where he addressed the community’s concern about road safety.

During a chat with LA GACETA Central, Nicastro highlighted that the province registered a worrying increase in the number of traffic accidents, particularly on productive routes where heavy traffic is constant during the harvest season.

“In recent days, unfortunately, we have had a series of accidents with fatalities, which has generated great concern among those who travel these routes. The lack of signage is a recurring complaint from the community,” commented the official.

The Minister of Transportation recognized that many of the routes are not in optimal conditions, which contributes to the risk of accidents. “We are working together with the province’s Highways to improve the state of the signs and evaluate the possibility of enabling alternative roads,” Nicastro explained.

The routes mentioned as critical are 157, 38 and 9, as well as route 304 in the northern area, where several serious accidents have been reported.

Measures

In response to the situation, daily checks are being carried out on the roads to verify the condition of vehicles and compliance with traffic regulations. Nicastro stressed that although checks are important, most accidents are due to non-compliance with traffic regulations.

“More than 80% of road accidents are the result of drivers’ lack of attention. It is essential that everyone respects the rules to reduce risks,” he said.

The official also noted that an awareness campaign is being worked on in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Security to educate drivers about the importance of road safety. This campaign will be launched in the coming days, coinciding with the start of the holiday period.

Asked about the implementation of alternative routes, Nicastro mentioned that this is an issue that is being evaluated together with the Directorate of Roads.

“We are looking into the feasibility of establishing alternative routes in some critical areas, although in some cases the lack of physical space makes it difficult to create new routes. However, we are committed to improving the existing infrastructure,” he said.

Regarding the improvement of routes, the official reported that repair work is already being carried out on some secondary routes and that financing plans are being evaluated to improve both secondary and main routes.
