San Luis Potosí, SLP.- The consolidated body of Multidisciplinary Strategies for Wellbeing, made up of researchers in Chemical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering and the Nursing Degree from the Multidisciplinary Academic Unit of the Altiplano Region of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP); the academic body Care for active and healthy aging “Dr. Santiago Valdés Galindo” from the Autonomous University of Coahuila, and the integrated body of Systems and Chronicity and Public Health from the Autonomous University of Yucatán, lead a project to combat diabetic foot.


The full-time research professor of the Altiplano Region Multidisciplinary Academic Unit, Dr. Nereyda Hernández Nava, announced that researchers from different universities participate in this effort from the area of ​​Nursing, Chemistry, Mechatronics and Computer Systems to promote research collaborative and multidisciplinary related to health care.


The project “Phase IV Randomized Clinical Trial of the multidisciplinary home intervention ‘Adacupié’ to control the risk of diabetic foot in Spanish-speaking and Mayan-speaking adults and older adults” participated in the 2022 Conahcyt Science of Frontier call, however, It was not awarded funding, despite that the researchers made the decision to continue with it.


In 2022, the Autonomous University of Coahuila evaluated around 150 patients, incorporating different techniques, including capillaroscopy. In turn, in 2023, the Matehuala campus of the UASLP evaluated around 115 patients from the ISSSTE and Clinic 14 of the IMSS Bienestar, incorporating capillaroscopy and mental health care.


Dr. Hernández Nava pointed out that they have carried out hybrid, in-person academic stays, refereed and indexed articles and summer reports on Science: “In 2024, the Autonomous University of Yucatán welcomed us and we managed to send a student financed by members of the body to will carry out a research stay”.


The research project is in the evaluation phase; next year, the intervention of Mechatronics will be incorporated into the geolocation part, as well as the incorporation of some devices to promote exercise for patients who are candidates or at risk of developing diabetic foot and to improve their circulation. The area of ​​chemistry with the creation of moisturizing and lubricating creams to prevent diabetic foot. Nursing will participate with all care and health education.


Dr. Nereyda Hernández Nava added that this year they will publish the book on Care for Patients with Diabetic Foot, addressing the assessment part to spirituality, with a person from England joining.
