Convergencia Social announced its support for the candidacy of the current governor of the Tarapacá region, José Miguel Carvajal, during an expanded meeting held on Thursday, June 27. The decision, made with the participation of the militancy, complies with the mandate of the party’s Central Committee.

Through social media, Convergencia Social highlighted that the meeting addressed issues relevant to the region and allowed for a horizontal dialogue between the militants and Governor Carvajal.

“It was an expanded event with a broad call, in which relevant topics for the region were touched on. “We comply with the mandate delegated to us by our Central Committee regarding the political definition of supporting the candidacy of the current governor of the Tarapacá region,” the party noted.

Support for Carvajal has generated internal tensions within the Frente Amplio, as various personalities have expressed their support for UNAP academic and Comunes candidate, Marcela Tapia. Moreover, Tapia has received significant support, including from the delegate of Tamarugal, Camila Castillo, and the councilor of Iquique, Rodrigo Oliva.

Yesterday, Tapia posted a video with the president of her party, Marco Velarde, who ratified and supported her for the race for the Regional Government of Tarapacá.
