A 24-year-old man was sentenced to four years in prison for selling drugs in São Tomé. This was resolved by Judge Gustavo Urdiales in a trial in which the procedures carried out in the courts of the city of Santa Fe were abbreviated.

This is Jose Daniel Quiroz, who was also ordered to pay a fine of 45 fixed units (equivalent to 4,050,000 pesos).

The prosecutor Esteban Morales is in charge of the investigation. He stressed that “Quiroz acknowledged his criminal responsibility as co-author of the crime of shared possession of narcotics for the purpose of commercialization.” He also pointed out that “the defense accepted the criminal attribution, the sentence imposed and the decision to shorten the trial procedures.”

Morales explained that “among the elements considered for the imposition of the sentence, it was taken into account that Quiroz has a criminal record from 2019 for co-authorship of crimes against property.” In this regard, he added that “he was declared a repeat offender.”

The crime investigated was committed around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday the 9th of this month in the vicinity of Gaboto at 1,300. “Quiroz and another man were in a Renault 12 vehicle in which they had glass jars with marijuana, and a pack of cigarettes in which they also had marijuana,” the prosecutor reported.

“The two people were arrested by National Gendarmerie personnel who were carrying out a vehicle check,” the prosecutor explained at the hearing. “In addition to the drugs, a precision digital scale was seized from them, which they used to weigh marijuana and sell it in small quantities,” he added.

Regarding the other man arrested, the prosecutor reported that “he was duly charged.”
