The Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out on the social network X that Dujarric’s words are part of the truth known to the entire international community and that the United States intends to ignore.

In response to a question from Prensa Latina, the spokesperson said that UN Secretary General António Guterres appreciates Cuba’s efforts in mediation processes, considering its permanence on the list of nations that allegedly sponsor terrorism to be contradictory.

“That is not the kind of behavior one would expect from countries accused of sponsoring terrorism,” he said.

He also praised the Caribbean nation’s work in mediation processes, particularly its efforts to achieve peace in Colombia.

The Caribbean nation was first placed on the State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism during the administration of President Ronald Reagan in 1982.

In 2015, then-President Barack Obama deemed the designation to be without merit in the island’s case and withdrew it.

But Donald Trump reinstated it in January 2021, just days before leaving the White House, something that his Democratic successor, Joe Biden, maintains, despite calls for him to rectify that position in his policy towards the Caribbean nation.
