Although the issue of renting housing can work in some cities, the preference is towards having one’s own home, considered Francisco Torres Ocejo, president of the National Chamber for the Development and Promotion of Housing (Canadevi).
Given the victory of Claudia Sheinbaum in the presidential election, Torres Ocejo said she considers that she will have to analyze the proposals she made during her campaign regarding housing, because “the numbers she gave for housing actually fall very short against the real need that exists in Mexico.”
He also referred to the proposal that raises the possibility of Infonavit credits being used to rent a house, about which he noted that this scheme “can work in cities like Mexico City, like large metropolises where people go to work. for a few seasons.”

However, he stressed that in the end, people are inclined to buy a house and build up assets, “renting a house is not going to generate that in the end.” He also stressed that people buy houses according to their means and gradually adapt them to their needs, for example by building a second floor or expanding the bedrooms.
For this reason, Torres Ocejo maintained that this fact should not be lost sight of, in that at least in San Luis Potosí, workers can still be provided with housing; He was convinced that those who acquired a loan 10 or 20 years ago to buy their own house do not regret it when they settle their debt and receive their deeds, since they already have an asset.
It is worth remembering that a few months ago the possibility of Infonavit building housing again was raised and that the credit could also be used to rent housing, which is considered a setback by some business organizations, given that said scheme is already It was applied years ago and did not give good results.
