San Andrés receives a milk donation within the framework of the Fedegán Consumption Promotion program.

The Colombian Federation of Livestock Farmers (Fedegán) and the National Livestock Fund (FNG) announced a new donation of more than three tons of milk for vulnerable communities in San AndrésThis delivery is carried out within the framework of Fedegán’s Consumption Promotion program, which is carrying out a campaign in seven departments of the country, with a total delivery of 237,000 liters of milk.

On this occasion, the inhabitants of the island received 3000 kilos of whole milk powder, Dehydrated and 100% Colombian, equivalent to 24,000 liters of liquid milkThis donation will benefit 1,500 vulnerable families on the islands of San Andrés and Providencia.

This contribution has been well received by the islanders, since milk is one of the products in the family basket. more difficult to acquire, since the price of a kilo of milk on the island is around 60,000 pesos,” said Nataly Delgado Pinzón, executive director of the Colombia Livestock Foundation (Fundagán).

Fedegán pointed out that this delivery represented a considerable logistical challenge, since the milk left the port of Cartagena on June 10 in one of the National Navy ships, undertaking a four-day journey to reach the island.

“Fundagán’s participation in the campaign carried out in Providencia has been an important step, since it allows us to bring top quality food to a municipality which has been affected by the passage of hurricanes and where the cost of living is very high, due to the difficulty to transport products to the island,” said Lieutenant Commander Santiago José Coronado Barragán, head of the Comprehensive Action Department of the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia.

Fedegán reported that in total, more than 40 health professionals attended to the Raizal community that is still recovering from Hurricane Iota.

Finally, Fedegán stated that they will continue with this social campaign that began in Chocó and will reach the departments of Sucre. (La Mojana), Magdalena and Atlántico, where three tons of powdered milk will be delivered in each one.

“Livestock solidarity will also reach Magdalena Medio, Boyacá and Cundinamarca, regions that will receive 4,000 kilos of powdered milk each,” Fedegán concluded.
